Mitchell first trained to become a teacher in 2005. Why did he become a teacher?

Between 2001-2004 he worked on Portobello Road, London, just over from the famous bookshop in the film Notting Hill. Mitchell ran the security in a once famous bar and restaurant called the ‘Ground floor Bar’.

In this time Mitchell would continuously form good relationships, built on respect, with local children who would cause trouble on the streets and the local well-known faces. He would talk to the children at great length and encourage them not to cause trouble but to respect their community. At the time he also worked in a clothes shop on the legendry ‘Kings Road’ where many celebrities would often shop including George Best. Mitchell would cut deals with the children on the street offering them a discount in the shop if they behaved, back then it was always about the ‘New Era fitted caps’. The shop has now moved to Barnet in North London which you can see here and also here.

This is what made him want to become a teacher as he wanted to shape a young person’s life, teaching them about respect, right and wrong so that they didn’t end up on the streets but in fact left school with grades and the right attitude to succeed in life. Having a love for Design & Technology and finishing his degree in Product Design he thought what a great use to put this to. So he trained to become a D&T teacher, teaching at Earlham High, Costessey High, two inner city London schools, Ormiston Victory Academy and then Taverham High.

He wanted to make a difference and believed that he could and still can.

Dwight has recently undertook training in…..TBC
